Geri's Game is my Favorite Pixar Short

by Amber
(Phoenix, AZ)

There was a time I asked myself this very same question, "Which Pixar short did I like the best?" It was tough to answer at the time, but now I would definitely have to say that Geri's Game topped them all for me.

The first time I watched it, it made me laugh. A classic depiction of an elderly man forced to play a lonely game of chess. You start to feel sorry for him. Yet, with a twist, he's actually found a way to make his solitude game of chess interesting; impersonating another person. Though at the time, I had thought it was Geri's twin.

Then when Geri’s "twin" was about to win the game, Geri pulls his trump card to win the game; a fake heart attack, giving him a chance to pull the old switcheroo. It reminded me so much of the times my spunky grandpa and I used to play games whenever my family visited him. I used to try the same tricks on him.

The scene at the end, seeing Geri so alone at the table made me feel sad for him again. With all the emotional ups and downs in the clip, it was still the best in my books.
