Hefty Heimlich

by Ashley N.
(California)

My personal favorite character in A Bug's Life in Heimlich, the German caterpillar with an eating problem. His hilarity comes to a head when he finally becomes the "beautiful butterfly" that he always dreamed of.

Although his wings can in no way lift his large body, with the help of his circus friends, he is able to fly. This is my favorite moment of the movie because his kind heart and spirit make the audience cheer for him as he shouts, "I am a beautiful butterfly! Look at my wings!" Also, it helps enforce the strong friendship motif seen through out the movie.

Beyond this, A Bug's Life movie teaches the importance of teamwork, community and friendship. It also emphasizes the value of hard work. It is enjoyable also for the great animation and the energetic voice work of the actors portraying the different bugs. Each creature has it’s own unique personality quirks, and that makes them very endearing to the audience.

A Bug’s Life is a fantastic movie for all ages, and it can be easily enjoyed for the strong, positive messages and comedic humor provided by the characters. It is a great twist on the story of “The Ant and The Grasshopper”.
