Who are the Main Toy Story 2 Characters?

We get to meet memorable new Toy Story 2 characters in this sequel who befriend Woody despite being kidnapped by Al McWhiggin. In Toy Story 2, Woody meets the co-stars of his secret past from the hit TV show, Woody's Roundup. Jessie, the Prospector and loyal Bullseye the horse. Buzz Lightyear leads a rescue mission with all of Andy's toys from the first movie.

Woody

Woody, the pull-string sheriff doll belonging to Andy Davis, is kidnapped by a toy collector at a yard sale. He soon finds out he's part of a valuable toy collection from a 1950s television show called Woody's Roundup. He meets the other Toy Story 2 characters in the Roundup Gang: Jessie the yodeling cowgirl, Bullseye the faithful sidekick horse, and Stinky Pete the Prospector.

tries to escape several times to get back home to Andy, but after hearing Jessie's story of how she was abandoned when her owner grew up, he begins to have second thoughts about returning. Instead, he agrees to go with the others to a toy museum in Tokyo, Japan.

He eventually comes to realize that he should be with Andy, despite knowing Andy will outgrow him. He convinces Bullseye and Jessie to join him.

Buzz Lightyear

Buzz returns in Toy Story 2 as the leader of Woody's rescuers, including Hamm, Mr. Potato Head, Slinky Dog and Rex.

When Buzz and the toys finally reach Woody at Al Whiggins' apartment, Woody rejects the rescue. In an ironic twist, it's Buzz this time who reminds Woody that he is a toy - a child's plaything.

Later, also leads the toys into hijacking a Pizza Planet delivery truck (as seen from the first Toy Story) and follows the Roundup Gang to the airport.

He is able to free Woody and gets rid of bad guy Stinky Pete the Prospector, who had thwarted them at every turn so they could get to Japan. Once Bullseye was freed, Buzz helps out in Jessie's rescue by riding Bullseye fast, fast, fast to keep up the airplane as it gets ready to take off.

Back home at Andy's, Buzz gets a crush on Jessie and they flirt with one another.

Bo Peep, Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Jessie

Jessie

Jessie is the yodeling cowgirl who is Woody's partner in the 1950's (fictional) TV show Woody's Roundup. The other main Toy Story 2 characters in the Roundup Gang include Stinky Pete the Prospector and Bullseye the horse.

has characteristic red yarn hair and is hyperactive and often excited, and when that happens, she yodels! She's very likable and enthusiastic, but we soon find out it can be a cover for deep sadness.

Jessie also belonged to a child, a little girl named Emily, who outgrew Jessie. One day Jessie had slipped under the bed, collected dust and was forgotten about. Eventually, Emily found Jessie, but instead of playing with her, she was put into a box and donated to a toy charity by the side of the road.

Because Jessie had been kept in a dark, enclosed box for many years, she was claustrophobic and was not keen on getting back inside. This made her angry toward Woody, who didn't seem to think about her plight, only his desire to go home to Andy.

When Woody suggests that they all go back to Andy, Jessie remains skeptical because she doesn't want that feeling of rejection again that she had with Emily.

She finally agrees to go when Woody tells her that Andy's got a little sister who'd love to play with her.

Andy is excited when he returns home from Cowboy Camp to see Jessie and Bullseye there and Jessie feels appreciated again when Andy writes his name on the bottom of her shoe. She's also shows special affection for Buzz Lightyear.

Stinky Pete the Prospector

Stinky Pete the Prospector

One of Woody's Roundup Gang, Stinky Pete, AKA The Prospector, is the villain of Toy Story 2. When we first see Stinky Pete, he is hobbling around in his box, a toy that was never opened.

Turns out this has created a lot of resentment for Pete, who says that for years all the other toys in his aisle were sold but not him. Now that they will be sold to a Japanese toy museum, his chance to feel appreciated has finally come and he doesn't want Woody to ruin it.

On several occasions, he thwarts Woody's efforts to escape and fights to the end to keep Woody from escaping. In the airport's baggage area, Pete and Buzz fight and Buzz is able to stick Pete into a little girl's pink back pack just as it goes out onto the baggage carousel. Now you'll know what it's like to be played with! What a great line!

Horrified, he notices a Barbie next to him with hand painted rainbows, hearts and stars on her face. Pete's fate in the hands of his new owner is NOT what he planned!

Bullseye

Probably the cutest of the Toy Story 2 characters to come onto the scene is Bullseye the horse. belongs to Woody in the Woody's Roundup TV show and despite the fact that he doesn't speak, he clearly shows his strong loyalty toward Woody and to Jessie as well.

Bullseye seems like a big puppy at times; he's playful and affectionate but mostly loyal. Bullseye helps save the day by galloping like the wind to keep up with the airplane as it begins to take off. He is able to help rescue Woody and Jessie just before the plane takes flight.
