Aidan's New Lightning McQueen Bike

All he could think about was a Lightning McQueen bike. My son Aidan's fifth birthday was coming up and my husband and I wanted to get him something special for this milestone birthday. Right away, Aidan mentioned the bike because all his friends his age had bikes but him. He talked about it for months!

The box was pretty big!

I had decided to purchase the Huffy brand This style bike also comes in but Aidan is too big already. We got free shipping with any order over $25, so we thought that was a good deal.

I was concerned about the three out of five stars it got on the reviews. Was it going to be of good quality or fall apart within a matter of weeks of purchase? Like you, I'm tired of merchandise I buy falling apart so quickly. It's important to ensure you're getting a quality product, is it not?

I had seen the but it was a bit more and beyond our budget. The BMX did show a higher rating and must be of better quality than the Huffy. We just couldn't swing the cost this time, though, so I went ahead and purchased the Huffy.

The bike arrived a few days later in a large, sturdy box - Amazon is fantastic about prompt shipment. On the appointed day, the birthday, my husband assembled it quickly and easily. The only thing he had some trouble with was putting together the brakes just right, and that's the only confusing (and most important) part of putting together the bike.

With the bike, we also purchased a child-sized to protect his head, and where I live, it's also the law. The helmet looks great and goes well with the bike. It fits him well and does not slip around on his head. Just be careful snapping the clasp under your child's chin so it doesn't pinch. I did that the first time I put it on him and it hurts. Stand behind your little one and place your thumb between his or her chin and the clasp.

It's now been a few days since he's gotten his new Lightning McQueen bike and I've been observing closely how this bike has been performing. First off, it's a great looking bike - bright red with really cool graphics. My son absolutely loves it and is excited about riding it every day. The seat has the Cars logo on it and the little pack on the front is handy for carrying things like snacks or Band-Aids.

However, the training wheels have loosened twice, but that could be the bike adjusting itself as it's being used for the first time. Carry a wrench with you in the beginning to tighten them again.

The stickers on the training wheels that say Lightyear (like McQueen's tire logo) are beginning to peel off a little bit. Aidan has pedaled through some water puddles, but the stickers should stay on better.

Since this video has been made, the brake cable has also snapped off. Luckily, this is also a back-braking bike, the main system used. The storage pocket on the front that was only ripped a bit in the video has now come off as well. Overall this bike is awful! Do not buy!
