Ideas for a Toy Story Cake
That Will Blow You Away!

Disney Pixar releases Toy Story 3 in June and a Toy Story cake and party supplies are hot items for a desirable birthday party theme.

Many talented bakers have come up with imaginative Toy Story 3 cake designs that are inspirational enough to give us our own ideas of what's possible to create for the big day.

Do you want a square cake with a special Toy Story design or a multi-tiered cake either round and square? I've seen some that are round, as in globe/planet round with a Buzz Lightyear on top and they are truly works of art. You'll also get to see some really cute Toy Story cake toppers ideas, especially with the new Toy Story 3 characters that everybody loves.

Cupcakes are also becoming more and more popular as an alternative to the traditional Toy Story cake designs, and the bottom of this page will show you some creative Toy Story cupcake ideas, too.

How to Make a Toy Story Cake

Probably one of the best easy Toy Story cake ideas would be the bed in Andy's room theme. As you can see in the photo on the right, the entire cake is Andy's bed. You can either make your own Woody or use a Woody or other as your cake topper. Most of the time, the bed frame is made of melted chocolate poured into a mold.

Another way you can make the bedroom-themed Toy Story cake is to make a large rectangular cake then a smaller (half the size or so) rectangular cake as Andy's bed and make it a two-tier cake. See the last photo on this page as an example. Or make two large rectangular cakes, then with the leftover cake from Andy's bed, turn them into cake blocks with the birthday child's name spelled out.

If you don't want to be that ambitious, don't worry; you can still make an impressive-looking Toy Story cake. This is edible, and would look good on either a round cake or a rectangular cake, and if you're pressed for time, a basic cake from your grocery store bakery will work fine, then put the topper on it and voila!

Interested in making that sphere-style, ball Toy Story cake? You'll need two mixing bowls, either glass or metal, that are the same size. With the appropriate amount of cake mix (depending on the size you want your globe) fill the two bowls and bake. To attach the two halves you'll need a dowel, a wooden chopstick from your local Chinese takeout will work the best. Use icing to cement the middle of the two halves. Now you're ready to frost the outside! This photo is what made me curious on how to bake a sphere-shaped cake. It has fondit instead of frosting to make the cake look like a planet. How cool looking!

Pixar Ball

Continuing with the ball-theme, you could also make the famous one-star Pixar ball! It would look really cute surrounded by Toy Story cupcakes. I haven't seen ANY pictures of a Pixar ball cake, so if you make one, submit your picture and tell us how you made your cake and it will be an Internet FIRST shared here on The Leaping Lamp for the world to see!

Toy Story Cake Toppers

One cake topper that would look good on either a round or rectangle cake is this Keep in mind that this kit comes with two toppers, one Woody sitting down and a 3D Buzz Lightyear stand-up. The decorations shown on the cake are not included. You can add another character by lighting up this Toy Story candle, which is one of the cute green three-eyed aliens standing next to a red and white rocket. He's really cute!

Here's a cute Toy Story cake topper with Woody minifigure sitting on top of Andy's toy chest with a Buzz minifigure hanging out below. Additional 2D figures feature characters such as Slinky Dog, Hamm and the three Aliens. It is an adorable cake topper and you can

With all the excitement of Toy Story 3, you can get keep going with that theme using all the new characters as cake toppers with these The figures are small enough to use on a cake. You've got Buzz, Jessie and Woody as well as the major new characters like Lots O' Huggin' Bear, Big Baby, Buttercup the unicorn, Mr. Pricklepants the hedgehog, Stretch the octopus, Twitch the muscular insect and more. You may not be able to use them all, depending on your cake size, however, if it is multi-tiered you probably could.

Toy Story Cupcake Ideas

Cupcakes are another increasingly popular option instead of birthday Toy Story cake. Or you could do a combination of both: just look at Cristina Campanaro's creation on the right. This is a chocolate cake with Nutella filling and vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream. Adorable and DELICIOUS!

As you can see, cupcakes can be just as creative and fun, and in many cases less messy! Make your own cupcakes or purchase a set from your favorite bakery and top with these Toy Story cupcake toppers, which come in a set of 8. If you need a few more in a couple more shapes, then you might want to check out these  which come in a set of 12. All these cupcake rings can be kept as party favors afterward!
