A Bug's Life Scene:
Flik's Inventions

In Pixar's film, A Bug's Life, Flik the ant comes up with some great ideas for inventions that make life easier for the ant colony. Some of these inventions are disliked by the ants until they warm up to the idea, like his grass seed harvester, which quickly runs a blade of grass through and shakes out the seeds.

A Bug's Life Flik's Inventions

Another invention Flik has come up with is a telescope, where he rolls up a leaf into a sort of cone shape and plops a drop of water at the end. This serves as a telescope and is used a few times throughout the movie.

One of the great scenes shows Flik's idea to construct a fake model bird to scare away the grasshoppers when they plan to return to Ant Island in the fall. Hopper, the grasshopper gang's leader, is terribly afraid of birds, and it is the ants' hope that this fake bird will do the trick to keep the grasshoppers away from their ant hill.

I was most impressed with the ideas that went into creating this bird, from sizing the scale of it by using a shadow cutout of a bird shape from a leaf and using Rosie the spider's web silk to tie the sticks and twigs together to hold the shape of the bird.
