Introducing Toy Story, the First Computer Generated Full-Feature Film!I remember when the Toy Story movie came out and I saw it for the first time. You were probably as impressed as I was because most all the computer animation I'd ever seen before this film was so-so and had ended up preferring traditional animation. The checkered shirt Woody wears had been impossible to create in traditional animation and Buzz Lightyear looked like a real toy! Computer animation technology not long before this movie was released looked clunky and the figures never moved quite right, from their mouths during speaking to the way the bodies gestured. And the story lines were always an afterthought. Wouldn't you agree? Turns out Pixar had previously made some computer animation clips within some Disney films previously, such as the wildebeest stampede in The Lion King and the ballroom dancing scene in Beauty and the Beast. I vividly remember those particular scenes and how cool those scenes looked! Then, the masterpiece...Despite the Risks, Disney Gambled on Pixar and WonPixar pitched several movie studios to back their creation, but computer animation was so new at that time that nobody wanted to make such a high-stakes gamble. But Disney took a shot at Pixar and it's new film and it paid off well. Toy Story has characters divided into four sections: The movie was a huge success and animation took on a whole new meaning from then on. It was the #1 movie in 1995 and had such historical importance that the National Film Preservation Board chose the movie for preservation by the Library of Congress 10 years later. Pixar is famous for showing short films before the feature presentation. With the VHS release and the later release of the Toy Story DVD, the Pixar short chosen was Tin Toy. Appropriate, because Buzz Lightyear was originally going to be cast as a character more like the tin toy in the short film. What Would You Like to Say About Toy Story?
