Toy Story 3

Congratulations to Pixar with Toy Story 3 debuting on June 18th with the largest animation box office opening ever at $109M for the weekend in North America.

This movie has taken in $920 million at the global box office, topping Shrek's $919.8 million and making it one of the top earning animation films ever. Reviews have been nothing but glowing and this should go down as an instant classic along with the first two Toy Story movies. Disney Pixar also takes pride in winning two Academy Awards for Best Song and Best Animated Feature Film. What a success all around!

So what's it all about?

The film depicts Andy as a young adult who goes off to college and his toys are put into storage. Andy keeps Woody, after all, and the other toys, including Buzz Lightyear, end up at a daycare center after being nearly thrown away.

When Woody discovers that the other toys are not meant to go to the garbage and that Andy wants to keep them, he launches a rescue mission at the daycare. But he has to convince Buzz and the other toys to come back to Andy, that they are not meant for the garbage heap, but they all encounter unexpected conflicts with the other daycare toys that could keep them from getting back home.

Toy Story 3 is the last in the full feature film series, and it is full of high suspense drama as well as laugh out loud moments. It will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotion, yet I think you'll agree that you feel a sense of bittersweet closure at the end of this journey.

The Pixar short released with this film is Night & Day. Like many other Pixar shorts, it has no dialogue and showcases the artistic experimentation of emerging animation technology as well as letting new directors take the helm. It's a very cute film and well worth checking out.
