IRRISITIBLE! Loads of Cars Toys! |
In this video scene from the Cars movie, Sally Carrera has taken Lightning McQueen for a drive and she shows him the old Wheel Well Hotel. McQueen asks Sally why she stayed in Radiator Springs and she tells him that she fell in love. McQueen thinks it's another car, but Sally corrects him and says, "I fell in love with this," as they drive to the edge of the valley vista.
Lightning McQueen is impressed with the view and notices how the Interstate highway bypasses all the beauty, and nobody knows what they're missing.
Sally tells McQueen that 40 years ago, everyone went on a trip not to get somewhere, but to have an experience, winding through the scenic roads and stopping in the towns, interacting with one another.
Her recollection of Radiator Springs shows how vibrant the town used to be and how it deteriorated quickly with the construction of the interstate. Most of the businesses closed and those who stayed were terribly sad at what happened.
On a side note, the most dramatic change was in Mater - he was new and blue. He had both his headlights and a hood. At least he still kept his chipper personality!
The video set to the song, Our Town, by James Taylor. It's a lovely, sad song. Does it give you goosebumps like it did me?
