The Main Cars 2 Characters

I was surprised that the main Cars 2 characters did not include Lightning McQueen like he was in the first Cars movie. This time it is Mater and newcomers Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell that take center stage. I'm excited to share these wonderful new characters with you, so read on to learn about each of them...

Mater

The Cars 2 movie begins with Mater enthusiastically greeting Lightning McQueen home to Radiator Springs after a successful Piston Cup racing season. He doesn't want to be away from McQueen for one minute, even though McQueen wants a date with his girl Sally Carrera.

Mater gets McQueen into the World Grand Prix when he calls into a talk show on TV between the host, Miles Axlerod and Italian race car Francesco Bernoulli. He challenges Bernoulli on his accusations about McQueen needing rest and not wanting to race. This prompts McQueen to take over the phone call and agree to participate in the World Grand Prix along with his Radiator Springs Pit Crew. Mater's dream comes true when he gets to come along for a trip around the world!

Mater's small town ways start showing quickly though, as they go through Tokyo, Japan. He learns quickly that the world is quite different from home. Mater embarasses Lightning McQueen on several occasions, and McQueen lambastes Mater about his oil leak in front of everyone at the pre-race party, and is instructed to take care of himself in the restroom.

The bathroom scene is so funny. Many have heard of the Japanese high-tech toilets and this is one taken to the extreme. Pair it with a country bumpkin like Mater and it is absolutely hilarious, don't you agree?

It is in the restroom that Mater is inadvertently caught up in a spy operation when a piece of classified information is implanted in his undercarriage without his knowledge.

As Mater gets caught up in this new world of international espionage, he still tries to look out for his friend Lightning McQueen, even though McQueen sent him home for causing him to lose the first race.

While Mater feels like a fool and useless after getting fired, he learns that he's quite helpful in his knowledge of engines and parts. It is this superb knowledge about lemons and their motors that leads him to figure out that the mastermind behind the whole plot is Miles Axlerod, the sponsor of the World Grand Prix and creator of the new fuel Allinol.

At the end of the Cars 2 movie, the Queen of England knights Mater as an honor for solving the mystery behind Allinol and leading to the arrest of Miles Axlerod and his followers.

Finn McMissile

James Bond immediately comes to mind when thinking about this Cars 2 character. Finn McMissile is a British secret agent who is clever and fast-acting with an arsenal of weapons hidden away.

We are first introduced to Finn McMissile at the very beginning of Cars 2, where he sneaks aboard one of the guard boats amongst the vast oil fields in the middle of a stormy ocean. It is on one of the platforms that he encounters the Lemons and their leader, Professor Z who uncovers a mysterious camera. McMissile is quickly discovered and makes a hasty escape before getting all the information he needs to figure out what's going on.

Later on, McMissile and his lovely assistant, Holley Shiftwell, are at the World Grand Prix pre-race celebration with the intention to rendezvous with an American spy with some classified information to hand off to them.

During the actual race in Tokyo, McMissile holds off the Lemon thugs who are out to get Mater. McMissile impresses Mater with his karate moves and successfully keeps Mater safe.

Convinced that Mater is the American spy putting on an air to disguise his identity, McMissile plays along and convinces Mater to help him and Holley. He intervenes with Mater's intention to leave at the Tokyo airport and a huge and exciting chase ensues where they narrowly escape aboard Siddeley the spy jet who came in the nick of time.

McMissile and the rest go to Paris, France to meet with an underground informant named Tomber, who he rescued from a Moroccan prison. Tomber tells McMissile about a secret meeting of all the lemons in Italy, the same location as the next leg of the World Grand Prix.

During the race in Porto Corsa, Holley locates the electromagnetic camera being used to blow up the race cars, and McMissile tries to put a stop to it, but both he and Holley are captured.

The three Cars 2 characters all wake up to discover they are tied up in the cogs of Big Bentley, only seconds away from being crushed. Mater manages to escape and after he's gone, Holley and Finn work together to escape the binding ropes.

McMissile, using all his high-tech weapons and gadgetry, fight his way through to protect Mater. He successfully captures and arrests Professor Z and helps Mater expose the real villain behind the scheme, Miles Axlerod.

Holley Shiftwell

We meet this beautiful British agent in Tokyo, where she is currently stationed and aiding Finn McMissile at the pre-race World Grand Prix party. Holley Shiftwell isn't a field agent and panics but rises to the occasion when Finn McMissile sends her on the mission to intercept the classified material from the American spy who got more information on the oil platform.

She can hardly believe it when Mater comes out of the restroom, and her GPS locator indicates that Mater is the spy with the tracking device. She gives her code phrase to him, which he responds to because Mater knows all about engines. Holley is relieved that Mater is "the spy" and he shows a love interest in her right away because she's so attractive.

Later on during the race, Holley is with Finn McMissile and she pulls up a survaillance screen and discovers that the lemons have spotted Mater and are after him. She's technically savvy and quick thinking throughout the movie.

In the plane on their way to Italy, it is Holley Shiftwell who codes the computer to show only the lemons coming and going throughout Porto Corsa and it is her idea to disguise Mater as one of the city's tow trucks to infiltrate the Lemons' meeting. Holley approaches the "real" Italian tow truck and uses her feminine ways to lure him away and knock him out so that Mater can take his place.

When this Cars 2 character is trapped in Big Bentley, she and Finn McMissile escape by pulling apart by accelerating as fast as they can. Holley soon reveals that she's got two powerful jet engines and can fly around the city quickly, astonishing Francesco Bernoulli as he speeds along the track.

At the end of the movie, Holley Shiftwell and Finn McMissile come to visit Radiator Springs. Flo mentions the nasty dent in Holley's' rear fender, and how Ramone can fix her up. Holley politely refuses, stating that her dent holds a fond memory, following Mater's earlier sentiments about his dents.

Holley Shiftwell is easily one of my favorite Cars 2 characters. If you love her as much as I do, you'd want to give a top-rated toy such as these, wouldn't you?
