Finding Nemo Characters:
The Main Characters

The Finding Nemo characters were based on real aquatic animals living in the coral reef and the deep ocean and this was an important aspect of the movie. Learn some science at the same time as you're entertained and touched by a magnificent story with these unforgettable sea creatures.

I've included links to photos of what the real aquatic animals look like so you can make the comparison between the Finding Nemo characters and the real thing! It's really fun to compare the characters with the real animals.

Nemo

Nemo

Nemo is the main character of the film. He's a young clownfish and Marlin's only son because he is the sole survivor of a barracuda attack. One fin is smaller than the other because his egg was damaged from the attack and that makes his father even more protective of him.

Nemo has enough of his father's overbearing presence, and he wants to prove to him that he is not helpless. So in anger and frustration, Nemo defiantly swims out into the open waters and touches a boat, and ends up getting caught by a scuba diver and taken to Sydney, Australia.

Nemo ends up in an aquarium at a dentist's office and meets the other occupants known as The Tank Gang.

Marlin

The clownfish Marlin is Nemo's overprotective father. But as much as Marlin loves Nemo, he drives Nemo away from him because he's too restrictive in letting Nemo explore his world and take some risks.

Marlin goes on an epic-sized journey in search of Nemo and learns some life lessons on the way: Being more laid back and trusting others are a few. See a real clownfish by clicking here!

Dory

To offset the seriousness that Marlin feels, he needs a funny, sidekick companion. He finds Dory when he loses the boat and has to ask around for the directions to see where the boat went.

Dory is a regal tang fish who has short term memory loss. She is innocent and child like, but because Dory's not his child, Marlin can't tell her what to do. One of the lessons Dory teaches Marlin is to "Just keep swimming, just keep swimming." Do what you need to do and don't think about all the other stuff. Dory also teaches Marlin how to trust again.
