Toy Story 2 Characters:
The Background Characters

The Toy Story 2 characters with minor roles aren't huge in the movie, but they're a hit. You feel so badly for Wheezy, all covered in dust and forgotten. Zurg is just like Darth Vader with a cool, yet funny ping pong ball blaster. And who can't laugh at Bonus Belt Buzz, who the original Buzz makes fun of because he thinks he's a real space ranger! Let's find out more about the minor characters in Toy Story 2.

Toy Story 2 Character: Mrs. Potato Head

Mrs. Potato Head

At the very end of the first Toy Story movie, Andy's little sister, Molly, received a Mrs. Potato Head, much to Mr. Potato Head's delight. She takes very good care of Mr. Potato Head and they have similar personalities and the two never part. She helps Mr. Potato Head pack for Woody's rescue mission ensuring he has an extra pair of shoes "and your angry eyes, just in case." At the end of the movie, Mrs. Potato Head wants to adopt the little green alien squeeze toys. What a softie!

Buster

Another Christmas present from the first Toy Story - Andy's new puppy Buster! In Toy Story 2, he's grown up a bit into a real dog. He's frisky, but harmless, although he sends toys flying with his wagging tail. Woody's taught him many tricks and they have lots of fun together, but what's really wonderful about Buster is that he helps Woody rescue Wheezy from being sold at a yard sale.

Toy Story 2 Character: Wheezy

Wheezy

When Mrs. Davis puts Andy up on a dusty old shelf, he comes across a penguin squeeze toy whose squeaker had broken and was left forgotten amongst the books. Mrs. Davis later collects for a yard sale and Woody rescues him - barely. At the end of the movie, Wheezy's squeaker gets fixed and he croons like Frank Sinatra. He's certainly one of the Toy Story 2 characters with a happy ending!

Buzz #2 AKA "Bonus Belt Buzz"

Once Andy's toys reach Al's Toy Barn in Toy Story 2, they search the aisles for Woody. During the search, Buzz Lightyear comes across an aisle that is completely full of Buzz Lightyear toys, stacked high in their boxes. One of the duplicates comes to life when Buzz pauses at a display stand declaring "New Utility Belt!" and overpowers him when he tries to take a look at this new belt.

Just like in the first Toy Story, Bonus Belt Buzz believes he is a actual space ranger and repremands Buzz for coming to life before he is given to a child. He then holds Buzz captive inside a Buzz Lightyear box and puts him on the shelf with the others.

At first Buzz #2 is suspicious of Andy's toys until Rex claims that he knows how to defeat Emperor Zurg, which is enough for Buzz #2 to come along on their rescue mission. However, he believes that the mission is to find and defeat Zurg and knows nothing about saving Woody.

When they reach the end of the air vent that goes into Al McWhiggins' room, Buzz #2's head is used as a battering ram to open the vent. They all grab Woody together and head back only to be stopped by the real Buzz Lightyear. When the two Buzzes begin to argue, Andy's Buzz pops open Bonus Belt Buzz's helmet and he drops to the ground, gasping and gagging just as Andy's Buzz did in the first Toy Story movie. It was hilarious to watch this new Toy Story 2 character!

Buzz #1 proves to the other confused toys that he is Andy's Buzz Lightyear when he shows the bottom of his foot with Andy's name written on it. That's all the proof they need.

All the toys head back to the elevator shaft when their rescue mission failed and Woody and the rest of the Roundup Gang were being packed for the journey to Japan. This is when the menacing Emperor Zurg appears and Zurg and Bonus Belt Buzz battle it out on the top of the elevator.

Emperor Zurg tells Buzz #2 during the fight that he is his father in a really GREAT parody of The Empire Strikes Back, and Rex accidentally knocks Zurg over the edge of the elevator car and he falls down the deep elevator shaft out of sight.

Bonus Belt Buzz feels unhappy when he thinks he's lost his father, but the next scene shows the toys leaving the apartment and Buzz #2 staying behind to play a game of catch with his dad, the Emperor Zurg. It was a cute father-son moment and quite funny to see.

Emperor Zurg

He's Buzz Lightyear's arch enemy, and while he is only mentioned by Buzz Lightyear in the first Toy Story, we get to see in Toy Story 2.

Toy Story 2: Emperor Zurg

Emperor Zurg is a Toy Story 2 character who makes his first appearance in this movie during a planetary mission by Buzz Lightyear. They go into battle against one another and Emperor Zurg uses his ion blaster laser gun and defeats Buzz.

Shocking, yes, until you quickly discover that it was a scene in a video game that Rex and Buzz are playing together. Whew!

But later in the movie, Zurg escapes his box in Al's Toy Barn and follows the rescue mission to McWhiggin's apartment. He emerges just as the rescue group comes to the elevator shaft on their way down. Emperor Zurg and Bonus Belt Buzz battle it out on the top of the elevator, with Zurg announcing that he is Buzz #2's father. But it's Rex who knocks Zurg off the elevator car and he's elated that he's finally defeated Zurg!

Bonus Belt Buzz stays behind as the rescue party continues on their way. He and his father, Emperor Zurg, play a game of catch.

Tour Guide Barbie

As Hamm, Rex, Mr. Potato Head and Slinky Dog drive in a car around Al's Toy Barn looking for Woody, they go down the Barbie aisle. Tour Guide Barbie jumps into the car with them and gives a tour of Al's Toy Barn. I vote her as most hospitable Toy Story 2 Character!
