Toy Story 3 Characters:
Sunnyside Daycare Toys

The Sunnyside Daycare Toy Story 3 characters are an introduction to many new personalities in this movie. While these toys were all welcoming at first, Andy's Gang soon found out otherwise. Fortunately in the end, they turn out to be alright.

Welcome to Sunnyside!

Toy Story 3 characters: Sunnyside Daycare Toys

Lotso Huggin' Bear

When Andy's gang make it to Sunnyside Daycare, they are greeted by the resident toys. Immediately, a portly pink teddy bear who smells like strawberries and talks with a southern drawl steps forward. He limps along with a croquet mallet cane and introduces himself as the Daycare's leader.

Lotso is very kind and welcoming, giving them a tour of the facilities, and then assigns the newcomers to the Caterpillar room, knowing that room is where toy are abused by the rough children. The next day, however, Andy's toys seek to change to the Butterfly room where toys are played with respectfully. Buzz learns the truth about Lotso when he is captured in an attempt to find Lotso and request the room change. When Lotso refuses to let Buzz's friends change rooms, Buzz sees his true personality when Lotso holds him down to switch him to demo mode.

Woody also discovers the truth about Lotso at Bonnie's house with Chuckles the Clown's story of how he, Lotso and Big Baby, all of whom used to belong to a girl named Emily...

Emily received Lotso as a Christmas present and instantly became her favorite toy; she took him, Big Baby and Chuckles with her everywhere she went and they were all very happy together. One day, Emily and her family took a car trip and when they stopped at a rest area for a picnic lunch, Emily fell asleep and her parents carried her back to the car and drove away, but they forgot her beloved toys.

Toy Story 3 characters: Lotso, Big Baby and Chuckles left behind

These Toy Story 3 characters waited for Emily to return but she never came, so Lotso led them on a long and difficult journey back to their home. Once they arrived, Lotso saw through the window that he had been replaced with a new Lotso Huggin' Bear and something snapped inside him. He felt so betrayed and bitter about it that he even lied to Big Baby, saying he had been replaced too, and was no longer loved or wanted, and they should go away. Chuckles knew Lotso was just hurt and tried to convince him not to leave, but he couldn't change Lotso's mind. So they all left together.

On a dark and rainy night, these Toy Story 3 characters were bumped off a Pizza Planet delivery truck they were hitching a ride on and they landed right in front of Sunnyside Daycare. Lotso took over the place and ran it like a prison warden, believing he was protecting the toys inside from being abandoned. Big Baby became Lotso's head of enforcement and Bonnie discovered Chuckles and took him home with her where he safely remains.

Lotso runs the daycare just like a prison with tight security, night watchmen and vehicles that patrol the premises. Toys who try to escape are dealt with harshly. Ken, Twitch, Sparks, Stretch and Chunk are now his minions who do his bidding out of fear of the repercussions.

When Andy's toys nearly execute their escape plan at the daycare dumpster, Lotso stops them. Woody confronts Lotso with the truth about Emily and tells Big Baby that he was never abandoned. This enrages Big Baby and he pushes Lotso into the dumpster and shuts the lid. Lotso grabs Woody and pulls him in with him when Woody attempts to help one of the little aliens who got stuck with the lid.

At the dump on the conveyor belt, Woody helps Lotso get out from beneath a heavy piece of garbage before they get to the shredder. Yet despite the fact that Woody saves him and boosts him up to push the emergency stop button, Lotso leaves Andy's toys to their fate, laughing as he goes.

Karma catches up with Lotso this Toy Story 3 character, though, when one of the garbage men sees Lotso lying on the ground. Remarking that he used to have the same bear when he was a kid, he ties Lotso onto the grill of his garbage truck and takes off. The other captive toys on the truck's grill tell Lotso to keep his mouth closed while they're driving. Lotso got his just desserts.

Toy Story 3 Characters: Ken and Barbie

Ken and Barbie

He's a man who is fashion conscious and is Lotso's second man in command. Ken wears a blue short sleeved leopard print shirt with matching shorts and scarf and he lives in a magnificent mansion with a working elevator. He instantly falls in love with Barbie, of course, when the two meet. This Toy Story 3 character hates being told that he is a girl's toy, an accessory, but he loves his huge closet full of clothes. are inseparable until she discovers that he helped reset Buzz into demo mode and all of her friends are imprisoned.

Barbie is one of Molly's old toys that she decided she didn't want anymore and was tossed into the Sunnyside Daycare donation box. On their way to Sunnyside, Barbie is greatly upset when Woody points out that daycares are sad, lonely place for toys who have no owners. While technically a newcomer to Sunnyside, this Toy Story 3 character stays behind with and becomes a permanent part of the daycare center.

As part of Woody's escape plan, Barbie pretends to feel that she was wrong to break up with Ken and she convinces him to let her out. Being a softy, Ken sets Barbie free. Barbie turns on her charm and tells Ken she wants to see him model all his clothes for her and after having lots of fun modeling all sorts of outfits for her, she tackles him and demands to know how to fix Buzz.

Realizing that Barbie was just toying with him, Ken refuses to talk, so she ties him up and tortures him by ripping apart his cherished and most valuable outfits. Ken gives in and tells here where the get the manual.

Barbie disguises herself as an astronaut with the helmet over her head as she goes to Bookworm to get it. Bookworm doesn't realize that it is not Ken - he must wear different clothes and costumes all the time because Bookworm doesn't notice anything unusual. The only oddity is when he sees who he thinks is Ken, walking away in high heels. It was a funny moment!

Barbie goes with the other toys to escape by the dumpster, but when Lotso and his minions stop them, Woody confronts Lotso about his past and tells the other Sunnyside Toy Story 3 characters that Lotso has been lying to them. Barbie stands up to him too, exclaiming that, "Authority should derive from the consent of the governed, not from the threat of force!"

Stretch the octopus then starts pushing everyone into the dumpster, including Barbie and Ken shows up and tries to stop Lotso because he realizes that Barbie isn't like all the other Barbies out there. He claims his love for her, to which Lotso scoffs at him saying that she's not special, there are thousands just like her. But Ken disagrees and Lotso tries to push him in, but Woody manages to grab him and pull him to their side.

When Andy's toys hang on to the dumpster trying to get Woody out, they fall in, but Ken pulls Barbie back as she tries to help. They both remain behind and become the new leaders of Sunnyside Daycare. These Toy Story 3 characters successfully turn Sunnyside around from being a sad prison-like place to an environment of celebration and joy. Ken sometimes leaves a note inside Bonnie's backpack letting everyone at her house know how they're doing.

Big Baby

He is a classic baby doll who towers over the other toys at 18 inches tall and is Lotso's right-hand-man, so to speak, because he is so big and strong. Big Baby is one of the Toy Story 3 characters who is always there by Lotso's side to physically push the other toys around and put them into the sandbox when they get out of line, like what happened to Mr. Potato Head.

Big Baby is your classic baby doll who wears a onesie and has a "magical" milk bottle that empties as you feed him. This baby's been around the block a few times at Sunnyside Daycare, though. One of his eyes is permanently closed and the pen marks on the body that look sort of like a tough guy's tattoos.

Big Baby is close with Lotso because of their history together. They both belonged to a little girl named Daisy who had unintentionally left them and Chuckles the Clown behind at a rest stop during a family outing. Lotso, feeling extremely bitter about being replaced, lied to Big Baby, telling him that Daisy didn't love him and could easily be replaced too.

During the standoff at the dumpster, Woody confronts Lotso with the truth and tells Big Baby that Daisy always loved him and Woody tossed Big Baby the heart charm with Daisy's name on it that Big Baby used to wear. Big Baby starts to sniffle and cries out "Mama" when he learns this. Lotso, feeling threatened, snatches the charm away saying that Daisy never loved him and smashes the charm as Big Baby breaks down in tears. Then Lotso fiercely jabs Big Baby with the end of his cane and at that moment, Big Baby becomes sick of the bullying and lying and tosses Lotso into the dumpster, blowing a big raspberry at him.

Later on at Sunnyside, we see that Big Baby is living a happy life under Barbie's loving care.

Toy Story 3 Characters: Woody and Chatter Telephone

Chatter Telephone

Chatter Telephone is an old timer at Sunnyside. When he finds out that Woody is trying to escape with his friends, Chatter is skeptical and tells Woody that "You and your friends ain't never gettin' outta here." But he sees Woody's determination and discreetly explains the inner workings of Sunnyside: taking out the monkey guard first, avoiding the patrols, which doors to unlock and where to find the keys.

At the dumpster confrontation a little later, we wonder how Lotso and his minions found out about the Toys' escape plan, and then we see that Chatter was beaten into talking. Chatter apologizes, and Woody looks on in sympathy.

All ends well for Chatter Telephone, though, because we later see that he has been repaired and is having a great time in Sunnyside's new atmosphere.

Stretch

She's a glittery, stretchy octopus with eight arms lined with suckers. Stretch one of the Toy Story 3 characters who seems friendly enough shaking hands when Andy's toys arrive, giving massages to a couple of other dolls and playing cards in another scene. But she is clearly on Lotso's side as she blocks Andy's toys when they are at the end of the garbage chute.

Once Lotso's out of the picture, though, she reforms and is a friendly greeter at Sunnyside.

Chunk

Chunk is a one of the Toy Story 3 characters who is rock monster-type creature with huge fists and shoulder spikes. When you press the top of his head he can switch faces, from a blue-eyed smiling face to a red-eyed fierce face. is a bit of a dumb toy, and he is one of Lotso's minions. At the very end of Toy Story 3, Chunk and Twitch tag team duties as each are roughly played with by the kids.

Sparks

Sparks is a retro-inspired blue and silver robot with red trim. He rolls around on tread wheels as he spits out sparks and has flashing red LED lights for eyes. can grab all sorts of things with his extending arms with pincer hands and he can extend his body, too. Like the rest of Lotso's henchmen, Sparks reformed once Lotso was gone and he befriended Emperor Zurg when he was donated to Sunnyside.

Twitch

Twitch is one of the Toy Story characters who is part man, part insect. is a tall wrester/warrior type of action figure, who is green, muscular, and carries a large club-like staff. Mrs. Potato Head is impressed with his physique as she rubs his arm. He and Chunk team up and take turns being played with roughly by the children in the Caterpillar Room during the ending credits of the Toy Story 3 movie.

Book Worm

One of the Sunnyside Toy Story 3 characters, Book Worm is a nerdy green little worm who wears a bow tie and round glasses. Book Worm holds a flash light for you to read your books at night, after you're supposed to be asleep. He is in charge of the user manual library and he has to get Buzz Lightyear's instruction manual on two occasions: once for Lotso to put Buzz into demo mode and once when he thinks Ken is asking for it, but it's really Barbie in an astronaut's disguise. He looks puzzled when he sees who he thinks is Ken walking away in high heels.

Toy Story 3 Characters: The security monkey keeping watch

Security Monkey

The Cymbal Banging Monkey is modeled after a Musical Jolly Chimp Monkey Toy popular in the 1960s. He is first seen with Bonnie snuggling him when she sits on the counter top of the reception area when Ms. Davis first comes in with the box of donated toys. Later we learn about Monkey's role in Sunnyside as Chatter Telephone debriefs Woody on the inner workings of Sunnyside security.

Chatter recommends to Woody that the Monkey be taken out first because he closely monitors all of the security cameras with his watchful eyes. Monkey loudly clashes his cymbals and shrieks into the intercom system as an alarm if any toy is seen trying to escape and there are cameras posted everywhere throughout the facility.

Monkey is the creepiest and scariest of all the Toy Story 3 characters (at least in my opinion) and Woody and Slinky Dog have the task of disabling him. They sneak into the security room and both Woody and Slinky Dog manage to subdue Monkey after a brief tussle and Slink brings on the Scotch tape. Together they bind Monkey from head to toe and put him in a file cabinet.

The end credits show that Monkey has changed his ways like the rest of Sunnyside toys, happy and wearing star-shaped sunglasses. He's gleefully banging away on his cymbals and dancing away in the party-like atmosphere.'

Jack-in-the-Box

Voiced by Director Lee Unkrich, the Jack-in-the-Box exclaims with joy "New toys!" upon the arrival of Andy's toys. This Toy Story 3 characters has a pointy blue hat and an orange and red striped springy body.

Peter and Lil

Two Toy Story 3 characters are dolls at the Sunnyside Daycare Center who are briefly seen getting a nice massage from Stretch in the toy repair room during Lotso's tour of the facility.
